**Our meeting program on June 20 was an overview of the Convention.
The Rotary International Convention was held in Atlanta on June 10-14. Our club was represented by the Binghams, Heiles, Horldts, Laffertys and Mercers – that is 13 adults and children registered.
Saturday Morning – Grand Opening of the House of Friendship (trade show area). District 7670 won the award for the highest district registration rate worldwide at 350 people (15.9% of the district’s membership). As a reward the district members had their picture taken with RI President John Germ.
Saturday Night – Blue Jeans and Blue Grass Event featuring Ricky Skaggs. Followed by Candlelight Vigil to bring awareness to human trafficking.
Sunday Morning – Opening Ceremony – Rajashree Birla – Philanthropist and advocate for corporate social responsibility; chair of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development – donated $1M to End Polio Now
Monday Morning – General Session – Focus on End Polio Now and Human Trafficking. Guests – Bill Gates, John Cena, Ashton Kutcher
Monday Afternoon – Members went to different 1 hour breakout sessions.
Tuesday Morning – General Session – Andrew Young (adviser to Martin Luther King Jr), President of Coke, Jack Nicklaus.
Tuesday Lunch – For President-Elects (Beth) to hear from Ian Riseley.
Tuesday Afternoon – Members went to different 1 hour breakout sessions.
